The Brandenburg State Museum of Archaeology is presenting its legacies.
The permanent exhibition with some 10,000 selected exhibits presents a fascinating overview of the 130,000-year cultural history of Brandenburg. Over a space of about 2,000 square metres, visitors are taken through nine rooms beginning with the Stone Age and on to the Bronze and Iron Ages, from the Migration Period to the Slavic Middle Ages, through the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.
Some of the most spectacular artefacts are for sure the oldest finds of the State of Brandenburg, which are interpreted as Neanderthal stone tools. These artefacts are about 130,000 years old and were once used to cut up hunting prey.
But also the oldest fishing net in the world, the earliest Brandenburg gold from the Neolithic period or salt, jewellery and drinking vessels from the Bronze Age, which indicate far-reaching contacts, are exhibited and explained here.
These and many other exhibits enrich the museum's permanent exhibition.
